Pet Friendly Hotels
in York Maine

There's not a lot of them, but there certainly are some excellent pet friendly hotels here in York, and other options for traveling with your pet as well.

The Mic Mac motel, located on Route 1 closer to the Kittery town line, will accept pets. The number is 1-207-363-4944.

The Cutty Sark motel, which is right on the ocean on the Nubble lighthouse end of Long Sands beach, will sometimes take dogs, depending on the dog and the time of year. Considering the view, it's worth a try! 1-207-363-5131 or 1-800-543-5131.

A 2009 addition to the roster of pet friendly hotels is The York Harbor Inn's 1730 Harbor Crest building. This beautiful antique home, consisting of seven upscale guest rooms, is the only York Harbor Inn property that allows pets. Please call 1-207-363-5119 for details on bringing your pet.

If you're camping in York , most of our tent and RV campgrounds will take well-behaved pets on a leash.

No Room At The Inn? Pet friendly PET hotels in York Maine!

Since pet friendly hotels here in York, Maine are a bit scarce, you may want to take little Tinkerbell to a local pet boarding facility while you're staying in town.

Close to York Harbor, on Route 103, is Meadow Winds farm. Meadow Winds is a smaller dog hotel, with an outdoor run and several daily turnouts. No web site, but they can be reached at 1-207-439-7800.

At 32 Wilson Road in Kittery, Maine, you'll find Inn the Dog House, a boarding and daycare facility accepting both dogs and cats. You can reach Inn the Dog House at 1-207-703-0000.

If you prefer a home environment for your dog, Lee Forrest, the "Critter Sitter", has been boarding dogs in her York home for more than 14 years. Lee treats your dog as one of her own, and also offers day care, dog walking and more in her services. She does not have a web site, but she can be reached at 1-207-363-4680.

If you are staying at a pet-friendly hotel in York and are going to be away all day at a wedding or other event, you may want someone else come and exercise your pooch while you're out having fun. Ed Macomber, owner of Loveable Mutts in Kittery Point, will do exactly that. Ed's email is loveablemutts@comcast.net or reach him by phone at 1-207-439-4310 or 1-603-205-0922.

#20 Catch?

Take Your Dog To The Beach!

Dogs and beaches. Talk about pet friendly!

What a picture of pure joy it is to see a dog tearing around the beach, leaping into the waves, trying to catch a seagull. And what a picture of pure joy it is to see that same dog, totally exhausted and happy that evening!

I went up to the beach this afternoon and took a picture of one of the signs on Long Sands beach. It has everything you need to know about the rules about your pup and York's beaches.

Seapoint and Crescent beaches in Kittery, Maine allow dogs, unleashed, from October 1 to May 15. From May 16 to September 30, however, the only dogs allowed are those licensed to Kittery residents. But it's really fun from October 1 to May 15!

Walk That Dog!

One of my favorite pet friendly walks with my dog also happens to be one of my favorite walks without my dog.

If you feel like going on a healthy walk with your dog, park somewhere in the center of town (back end of the library parking lot, on the street, in the lot behind Rick's/Cumberland Farms).

Walk away from the center of town on Route 1A. Take a right on Barrell Lane, just before St. Christopher's church.

At the end of Barrell, take a right on 103 and meander just a bit up the street till you see the causeway on your right with the world's smallest suspension bridge at the end. Walk over that bridge and into the woods. The trail in the woods is a big loop and you will come out at the bridge again.

While you're here, don't miss exploring the miles of wooded trails on and around York's Mount Agamenticus with Tinkerbell! Just go north on Route 1 from Route 95 till you see Flo's Hot Dogs (a long low red shack) on your right and Mountain Road on your left. Take a left on Mountain Road and follow it until you see the road on the right that leads up to the summit of "Mt. A". Have fun!

Feed That Pet!

If the local Hannaford supermarket doesn't carry what you usually feed Tinkerbell, try Ann-imals in Meadowbrook Plaza on Route 1.

Meadowbrook Plaza is adjacent to Eldredge Lumber, heading north on Route 1 from Exit 7 on Route 95.

Ann-imals carries a wide variety of organic and specialty pet foods for dogs, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, etc., as well as toys, healthy chews, leashes, coats. This is another terrific place to adopt a cat from the Animal Welfare Society for your vacation souvenir!

Anthony's Food Shop just a bit farther north on Route 1 also carries specialty dog food, so if you're stopping there for gas and coffee and gigantic slices of pizza and happen to need some fancy dog chow too...
